Research Environment
The
University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington has
recently undergone major expansion including a new 130,000
square foot Academic Research Building with transgenic mouse
barrier facility, together with a dramatic increase in
federally funded research. The Center for Molecular
Medicine, with space on two floors of the new building
contiguous with the
Department of Genetics, has a major focus on genetic
approaches to human disease, including use of relevant
animal models. Numerous opportunities for interactions exist
with translational research programs in
Cancer and in
Bone/Musculoskeletal Disorders; and with numerous basic
and clinical Departments and Centers. The University
operates state-of-the-art core facilities for
mouse transgenics and ES
cell manipulation,
microarray production and analysis, nucleic acid
sequencing, flow
cytometry, electron microscopy,
confocal
microscopy, fluorescence imaging, bone histomorphometry
including micro CT, automated genotyping, histology and
protein sequencing and mass spectrophometery. The CMM
recently acquired a state-of-the-art
Laser Capture Microdissection apparatus from Arcturus,
Inc.
